I've been reading here awhile, and I think/hope you guys can help me.
I am located in Lilburn, Georgia which is an Atlanta Suburb.
All of the telephone wiring is Fiber Optic
and a repair technician informed me of a "High Speed Internet"
feature which is provide to "Fiber Optic" neighborhoods called
"PC Data"
where the internet line in question is 2 pair or 4 wires and can only
be
used for data.
One pair is supposedly used for sending data while the other pair is
used for receiving data.
The transmission rate is in the gigabyte range like T2 and T3
connections offered to
businesses, and is much much faster than DSL.
This is all information given to me by the Bellsouth Repair Technician.
The feature or service is supposedly offer thru the 'Bellsouth Fast
Access" department
but there are no representatives who knows what it is or how to
order it.
Because of the fiber optic wiring in the neighbor hood, the standard
dialup service is
severely hindered because of a switching device called an SLC which
converts analog to
digital thus dropping the connection speed of standard dialup modems
which are
analog. Highest speed I can obtain is 28800 compared to 52000 in a
neighborhood
where the wiring is all copper.
I would like to know where to obtain more info about this service and
where to order it
from.
Thank You....
